WRL licensing & Driver approval process

Licensing with WRL can be established in a few different ways. The goal of our program is to be as accessible to as many drivers as possible while ensuring a high level of experience for the benefit of all. This is backed up with persistent driver tracking, fair and consistent driver stewarding and a commitment to driver development and education. See below for ways to get involved & see our Official rules for more information on the driver approval process. Licenses are tied to the QR code on your helmet which links you to our driver tracking system, no card required!

Unfortunately WRL does not accept complete novices, but there are some great paths to WRL eligibility - if you’re interested in racing with WRL but do not meet the requirements below email Race@RaceWRL.com and we’ll be happy to assist you in finding the best path to WRL based on your situation!

Conventional Licensing

WRL accepts conventional licensing from all major sanctioning bodies including: SCCA, NASA, IMSA, SRO, BMWCCA, PCA, PBOC, etc. so long as the license is in good standing with the series. With this method of licensing you will just need to bring this license with you to registration where it will be checked.

License expired? If your license is expired you are still good to go! You will simply begin your first weekend on a provisional status, moving to full WRL licensure upon completion of your first race weekend without incident.

See the Official WRL Rules for additional information.

endurance racing experience

Have you been racing for years, but chose not to go down the conventional licensing path? Times are changing and there are many paths to getting on track competitively, and there are several options that offer great seat time and experience without licensing. If you have seat time in Champ Car, Lemons or a local enduro series you may qualify to race in WRL! All we need from you is a racing resume listing your racing experience (a minimum of 8 hours of wheel-to-wheel racing experience is required) and a series contact. Good standing in your previous series is required.

All drivers who submit a racing resume in lieu of a conventional license will begin their first event on probation and are required to take part in Friday’s test/qualifying and will be monitored for the entire weekend. Upon the completion of that first weekend without incident you will be moved to full WRL licensure!

See the Official WRL Rules for additional information.

HPDE
Experience

Have you climbed the rungs of the HPDE ladder to the level of Advanced/Solo or Instructor but are ready to take the plunge into racing? WRL can help! WRL accepts significant Advanced/Solo HPDE experience and HPDE Instructor status for provisional licensing. All you need to do is ensure you meet the requirements listed in the 2021 Rules and work with your chief instructor to complete the CDI (chief driving instructor) approval form found below. WRL reserves the right to deny these applications for any reason they see fit, however most applications from reputable HPDE groups with good CDI references will be eligible.

CDI Approval Form: WRL CDI Form
